LASIK/PRK – Laser Vision Correction

Laser assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) or Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) is a refractive surgery that corrects near-sightedness, far-sightedness and astigmatism by reshaping the cornea. The procedure is commonly done to reduce or get rid of the need for glasses or contact lenses.

LASIK creates a flap in the cornea so that the cornea reshaping can occur. PRK is similar to LASIK but no flap needs to be created. Both procedures are safe but can have side effects of dry eye, haze, glare, and scarring. Dr. Bala has performed LASIK procedures previously but focuses on cataract surgery and femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery.

Eye Consultants does provide LASIK and PRK evaluations and opinions on whether you would be a candidate for the procedure as well as optimization of your corneal surface prior to the procedure. Eye Consultants wants you to have the best outcome for your procedure and will provide you with an honest assessment regarding whether you are a LASIK or pRK candidate, or what can be done to optimize your surgical outcome.
